Blood Bank of Delaware

September 2013 – Duffield Associates and its employees proudly support the Blood Bank of Delaware.  Duffield Associates employees participated in the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s Summer Blood Drive Challenge and it was a huge success.  Collectively we brought in 22 pints of blood and had 8 first time donors. In the end, Duffield placed 2nd in the “Micro-Business” category.  Thanks again to all that donated for making the event such a huge success!

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary Project Wins Honor Award

February 2013 – One of Duffield Associates’ recent projects won an Honor Award from American Council of Engineering Companies – Delaware. These awards recognize engineering achievements which demonstrate ingenuity while providing significant public benefit.

The Borough of Stone Harbor retained Duffield Associates to develop a plan to revitalize its 21 acre Bird Sanctuary to its once thriving habitat.  Over the years the wading birds had disappeared due to the invasion of non-native plants and reduced tidal flow into the Sanctuary. Duffield’s engineers and scientists recommended and designed a system to restore historic tidal flow into the Sanctuary and a network of ecologically sensitive trails accessible to visitors and local residents. The new design fosters a habitat conducive to native tidal marsh plants and wildlife resulting in the return of wading birds to the Sanctuary.

This project brought together diverse technical skillsets to solve problems innovatively on a unique platform.  Thus satisfying the goals of the client while providing a foundation for future work in the Mid-Atlantic coastal zone and along the East Coast where green space is precious and sustainability/management pressures increase annually.
