On September 23rd, EastSide Charter School in Wilmington, DE hosted a Grand Opening for its new Early Learning Academy. The ceremony was attended by Governor Markell, the Mayor Williams, the State head of the Department of Education and other local officials.

The Early Learning Center is a four-classroom, modular building on the grounds of the school which currently has 66 4-year-olds enrolled for the 2014-2015 school year. East Side Charter School is located adjacent to the low-income neighborhoods of East Lake and Riverside. Since its opening in 1997, EastSide’s Board of Directors has had the vision of creating a full service community school whose programming would not only influence the lives of the students who attend the School, but also the lives of others living in the underserved community. Having the ability to offer a pre-kindergarten program in addition to grades K-8, the school can further enhance the community by getting children enrolled in school earlier which gives them a better opportunity at succeeding in school and having a better life because of it.

Duffield Associates worked with EDiS and Studio JAED on this noteworthy project and provided the civil, geotechnical and structural engineering. Duffield Associates was thrilled to be a part of this project as this is a true example of how Duffield Associates enhances the community one project at a time.
