Duffield Associates, Inc. was retained by Magellan Midstream Partners, LLP (MMP) to provide engineering services to support major upgrades to MMP’s existing facility located at the Port of Wilmington.  The upgrades consisted of: constructing twelve new above ground storage tanks; secondary containment consisting of fine grained soil recovered material for use as a liner; new process structures and land-side loading/ unloading facilities; a new above- and below-ground pipeline to convey petroleum from the tank farm to the marine side loading/unloading facilities; a new deep foundation pile supported pipe rack over a tidal mud flat; and new marine structures consisting of an unloading platform, two breasting dolphins and two mooring dolphins.

MAGELLAN2Duffield Associates completed site assessments; performed geotechnical laboratory testing; provided design for earth embankments, pavements, shallow and deep foundations, of tank farm grading, tank farm liner system and slope protection; provided permitting; assisted with the acquisition of flood plain variance, local building permit and fire marshal approval; documented completion of waterside work in compliance with USACE permit conditions; and reviewed construction for conformance with design and permits.
