Project Description

The Marshyhope Creek had significant bank erosion problems, particularly in the vicinity of the existing boat ramp in Federalsburg. Duffield Associates proposed and implemented a design/ build solution to the erosion problem by creating a vegetated mud sill along the tidal zone. The mud sill was constructed from hardwood logs to form a chain of cells along the streambank, which were then planted with native vegetation to trap sediment which provide wildlife habitat and long term natural stabilization. This approach was the first of its kind in Maryland, and was utilized as a demonstration project by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
