Project Description

HSW was retained by Tampa Bay Water to support a Water Use Permit renewal application by evaluating potential factors that could cause a steady increase in chloride concentrations in groundwater (i.e., an indication of saltwater intrusion) measured at monitoring wells near the Northwest Hillsborough Regional Wellfield (NWHRWF) in Hillsborough County, Florida. HSW investigated several factors that could be contributing to increasing salinity in the area including (1) sea level rise; (2) groundwater withdrawals; (3) land development and associated surficial aquifer drainage; and (4) presence of fractures.
