Project Description

The site for the proposed Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory, or ISE Lab, at the University of Delaware presented many challenges in the design and construction of the foundation system for this specialized laboratory building. The site’s shallow groundwater table and highly variable rock depths and conditions required close collaboration between Duffield Associates’ engineers and the project design team to develop a specialized foundation system that accommodated stringent building limitations, the subsurface conditions, and the site constraints. The project provided a unique instructional opportunity for students to be involved in the engineering process happening in real-time on campus.
